His start in the world of investing was not very fortunate. When studying at university he started trading on Eastern European stock exchanges with great success. Unfortunately, caught by the first ever stock market crash in that region, he lost most of his capital. As he insists, that was the turning point in his professional life and the basis for his later success. He spent a few years analyzing his mistakes, researching markets and working on his own investment philosophy. Olaf focused his analytical work on the US stock market, as the one which "gives direction to the whole world" and turned to technical analysis which from now on has become his primary working tool. The pay off came soon after. Offering his insights to investors, he has become an expert in analyzing the North American stock markets.

In 1996 Olaf moved to Canada where he continues to provide research and expertise to investment professionals on an individual basis. After founding Olafinvest Research Inc. in 1999, he began providing sophisticated institutional investors with independent research into North American securities. 

His unique experience and ability to analyze the North American Stock Market from "outside" helped him to produce a truly remarkable calls like his forecast regarding Nasdaq’s collapse three weeks before it actually happened.
